Vintage Super Silhouette

Wow, this is golden! If you aren’t familiar with Super Silhouette races, they were held as part of the Fuji Grand Championship series between 1979 and 1984 and followed Group 5 Standards. There were very few regulations during this time and cars generally would only share the same basic “Silhouette” as production cars(which is where “Super Silhouette” comes from). What I loved about these cars was how over the top they were! If you’ve ever wondered where the Bosozoku style originated from, it probably started here as enthusiasts wanted to bring this aggressive styling to their street cars!

Pop My Trunk: JDM Edition

I was talking to a friend today and somehow we got on the topic of popped trunks in rap music, etc.  You know which ones I’m talking about – the raised up trunk lids with the obnoxious slogans written with neon lights! He told me that in Japan, a new trend has come about in drifting… the popped trunk!   I wonder if this happened by an accidental broken trunk latch or if it was done on purpose.  Only the most aggressive entry will cause the trunk to catch air!

Rice Nostalgia: All Clear Tails

If you’re a little older (or you’ve got older friends) then you probably remember the glory days of rice. You grew up in the ’90s when bodykits, altezzas, and graphics were cool. “The Fast and The Furious” didn’t introduce you to anything new – it only confirmed what you’ve thought was cool for years! Alot of times when I talk to older guys we’ll talk about the “good ol’ days” and laugh about how silly we were back then. The term rice gets thrown around fondly, almost as if it weren’t a bad thing. There is a bit of nostalgia for us.

I thought it’d be fun to throw up some fun throwback images! I’m not asking you to like these cars, but just think back with me and consider where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. Hell, it might make a comeback like bell bottoms did! To be honest, if you look around these days you’ll see plenty of classic rice modifications being introduced slowly back into the scene.
